TASTE OF ABBY LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Tourism Abbotsford Society introduces the annual Taste of Abby Leadership Award to foster Culinary Arts in Abbotsford. Presented to a student committed to local food, farmer relationships, and community engagement, the award is announced annually at the Food & Farm Awards.

“As a recent graduate of UFV’s culinary arts program, it’s safe to say I’m a bit of a food nerd. Attending culinary school was so much fun, and I can’t wait to further pursue my education in the future. I absolutely love all things cooking and baking, and I have for as long as I can remember. I love living in BC, where we are so blessed with a wide variety and abundance of locally grown food to cook with. Exploring new recipes and types of cuisines is a passion of mine, and I’m always looking to try and create something new! I’m looking forward to all the delicious dishes and recipes I will make as I continue to pursue my apprenticeship to get my Red Seal.”

“My name is Jenna Thompson. I have completed my Red Seal in Culinary at the University of the Fraser Valley. I currently am a Jr sous chef at a restaurant in Abbotsford and am training to become a sous chef in the next year. I also am still studying at UFV for my business diploma, which I am going to use with my Red Seal to take on more of the Management side of a restaurant and hoping in the future to open my own!

I am grateful for this award as it is helping me continue my education and support my city, as I have lived in Abbotsford my whole life. I have always loved to be in the kitchen as a little kid and helping my parents and family in all ways. Going through my red seal and getting restaurant experience has truly shaped my out look on food and how I love brining people closer with food!”
